OAXACAN GOLD: AN IMMERSIVE OAXACAN EXPERIENCE
The Georgetown Art Center is thrilled to host National Geographic Image Collection Photographer, Greg Davis for a culturally immersive and multi-faceted show titled Oaxacan Gold.
The show, which opens on August 26, 2022, will feature photographs and artifacts from the Mexican state of Oaxaca and will be on display until September 24, 2022.
Greg’s most recent project has guided him into the mysteries of the great Mexican state of Oaxaca. The idea and premise of the exhibition are to bring awareness to the culture and traditions of Oaxaca through exhibitions, new media applications, and speaking engagements.
This project is supported in part by awards from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Texas Commission on the Arts.
OPENING RECEPTION: AUG. 27, 4-7 PM
Spend the evening at the GAC for a traditional Oaxacan dance performance by Ballet Folklorico de Austin, musical entertainment, Oaxacan food & drink from Taconmaye, along with a traditional Mezcal tasting with Mezcal Vago.
ARTIST TALK WITH GREG DAVIS: AUG. 28, 2 PM
An intimate presentation and conversation with Greg Davis about his work and travels as a photographer.
ZAPOTEC WEAVING WORKSHOP: AUG. 28, 3:30-5:30 PM
Watch and learn about the authentic Oaxacan tradition of Zapotec weaving with Alex and Veronica Mendoza of El Huizache Studio. This is a ticketed workshop with limited spaces available.
